HEY THERE! I'M AMAKA

Untitled design (4).png

I'm a lawyer with many hats and interests, and it’s been a long while since I wrote, so forgive any lapses.

I am particularly interested in social development, international corporate law, business law and management, and human rights. A lot, right?!

Honestly, I’m just at that point where I’m still trying to be absolutely clear on where I want to specialize. I know, though, that active practice is really not for me and by active practice, I mean going to court how many times a week, announcing appearances, etc. I would much rather work in the background, developing and implementing innovative solutions to promote sustainable development across Africa, especially in Nigeria. I also enjoy drafting/reviewing agreements, signing documents and offering expert legal advice to help companies maximize their profit and growth potentials through effective corporate and data governance policies.

As an African lady in Africa, about 90% of the people I share my career preferences with say things like it’s expected that you prefer in-house practice because you are a woman. But come on! Putting ‘being a woman’ aside (whatever they mean by active practice isn’t for women), I know active practice does not suit me.

Aside from in-house practice, I also have my heart set on academia. School has always been a big part of my life, and while it may seem like so much mental work, for me, it is more like my safe zone, my haven. The rush I get from research work, especially! It is like downing a bottle of ice-cold Fanta on a super hot afternoon (okay, it may not be that deep, but you get the idea).

Since I have my eye on academia as my ultimate goal, I plan to go all the way to the doctorate level within a reasonable period. To succeed at this, I need to keep sharpening my research, analytical and writing skills; this is where this blog comes in.

In a bid to advance in the profession and prepare for my extensive research days ahead, I decided to get back into writing and focus squarely on legal issues.

How often will I be posting? As often as the Spirit leads.

What will I write about? I will post mostly on international corporate/business law, human rights and business management topics.

So, that's me in a nutshell. I'd love for you to fill out the form below so I get to know more about you, my precious reader.

HAPPY READING!
